Royal Canadian Mounted Police to assist law enforcement agencies

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 8TH 2008 (CUOPM) – Initiatives aimed at raising the human resource levels of law enforcement agencies to ensure that the response of the law enforcement agency to crime and other societal disruptions is swift, robust and thorough to meet the needs of the communities and the nation by extension will be implemented early next year.
St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas met on Friday with Royal Canadian Mounted Police Liaison Officer based in Kingston, Jamaica, Mr. Jeffrey Johnston, who is accredited to the Eastern Caribbean and the training manager for the project, Mr. Paul Jolicoeur.
“The overall goal is to build internal capacity within the police and other security agencies to make them more efficient in dealing with all elements of criminal activity as well as the method of police service delivery in the federation,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mrs. Astona Browne.
Mrs. Browne said the Ministry of National Security, Immigration and Foreign Affairs has secured funding for capacity building and human resource development.
“This initiative is collaboration between the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Canadian-Caribbean Cooperation Fund that will target the Royal St Christopher & Nevis Police Force using specific training techniques designed to meet the current security needs of the Federation,” said Mrs. Browne.
She said that the Ministry has requested the assistance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to design and deliver specific training initiatives to meet current needs to the local Police Force. ~~Adz:Right~~
