    POLICE/COURT ROUND UP

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEMBERS of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were kept busy over the past weekend with the removal of an illegal firearm from the streets of the Federation and the arrest of 17 individuals who were fo in contravention of the law.

     

    Craddock Road, Nevis resident Deshawn Mills was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a .38 pistol and illegal possession of a .38 round of ammunition.

     

    Seven men on Nevis were arrested and charged with gambling. They are Troy Nisbett and Mickey Williams of Jessup’s Village and Cotton Ground residents Fitzroy Browne, Jason Browne, Fitzroy Wilkenson, Lester Seabrookes and Jenerson France. The arrests took place on Friday, December 5, 2008.

     

    A Sprott Street, Basseterre juvenile was arrested and charged with one count of building breaking and larceny. The incident is said to have occurred on Friday, November 5, 2008 but he was arrested and charged on December 7.

     

    Indecent assault was the offence preferred against Cotton Ground inhabitants Ishawn Jeffers and Delano Browne. The offence is said to have been committed on December 4 and they were arrested and charged two days later.

     

    Kenrick Weekes of Saddlers Village, Omar Lesroy Hendrickson of Zion Village in Gingerland, Geraldo Henry of Romney Ground and Lamoy Marsham of Sandy Point were arrested and charged with one count each of possession of cannabis. The incidents are unrelated and the individuals are expected to appear before the court shortly.

     

    COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    Two persons who appeared before the Magistrate’s Court recently were convicted of their charges and ordered to pay a combined sum of $2 950 in fines.

     

    Westbourne Street, Basseterre resident Guyan England was convicted of one count of possession of cannabis and was issued a $2 500 fine which is to be paid within five months if he is to escape a six-month prison sentence.

     

    For the offence of assault, Jason Williams of Parray’s Village was fined $450 which is to be paid within two months. Failure to pay the sum within the prescribed period would result in the imposition of a one-month custodial sentence.

     

    He was also convicted of a battery charge but was severely cautioned.
