Wooden McKnight home gutted by fire

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHAT reportedly began as the simple flicking of an electrical switch ended in a McKnight home being gutted by fire.

The incident – according to information received by SKNVibes – took place last evening at about 9:00.

The wooden structure is said to have been owned and occupied by one “Mr. Crawford” and sat on Cornell Street directly opposite the front of the Irishtown Community Centre.

Details of the origin of the fire are still unclear but this publication understands that after Crawford turned on the “light switch”, he smelled smoke and sometime after the house was engulfed in flames.

A unit from the Basseterre Branch of the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services Department was dispatched to the scene and within a half an hour it managed to contain and quell the blaze.

SKNVibes understands before that could have taken place, the fire had spread to a house next to Crawford’s and some damage was sustained to one of its outer walls.

Thankfully, no personal injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.

As for Crawford’s home, it was totally destroyed and most, if not all, of its contents totally destroyed.

Members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were summoned to the scene to conduct investigations and possibly ascertain the cause of the fire.
