J’Ouvert jamming in SKB on August Monday too!

LIME Xtreme Revolution jamming during Sugar Mas 40

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THERE will be two J’Ouvert jam sessions in the twin-island Federation on August Monday; the usual one in Nevis for Culturama and, strangely, another in St. Kitts.

This first-time event for St. Kitts at this time of the year is being organised by Xtreme J’Ouvert.

Today (Aug. 2), SKNVibes spoke with owner of Xtreme J’Ouvert, ‘Magic Fingers’ Ronnie Rascal, who informed that the authorisation of routes from the police was obtained yesterday.

He disclosed that the event is a “victory jam” in celebration of the troupe winning Best J’Ouvert Trope for Sugar Mas 40 (St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival) with the name LIME Xtreme Revoultion.

And attendees to this upcoming J’Ouvert event could expect “lots of fun and excitement”, according to Ronnie Rascal

The jamming it scheduled to begin at 6 a.m.  and ends at 12 noon, starting from the Newtown Fishery on the Bay Road with the jamming around town, which would end on Bank Street with the Xtreme J’Ouvert Wet Down.

Music would be provided by the Nu Vybes Band International (De Sugar Band) and Ronnie Rascal High Powered Asylum Sound.

Asked if the event would be an annual one, Ronnie Rascal said, “We would like it to be. This could be the start of something that we should be doing.”

He outlined that in St. Kitts, during the two back-to-back holidays in August, which are the August Monday and the following day, there is “nothing to do” and he therefore sees the J’Ouvert event as one “to have some fun”.

In light of the controversy about the event being held in an attempt to keep Kittitians from attending the annual Culturama J’Ouvert, Ronnie Rascal dismissed that notion, stating: “We are not trying to stop anybody from going to Nevis.”

He went on to point out that “we live in a world where people have the right to have choices”.

SKNVibes learnt that Extreme J’Ouvert has been participating in Culturama over the past five or six years.

Extreme revellers are being asked to wear any Xtreme T-shirt they can find...even old ones.
