CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Bank of Nevis officially welcomed its new General Manager, Everette Martin, during a cocktail party held last night (Dec. 10) at Coconut Grove Restaurant.

The event was attended by a number of bankers, finance and investment specialists, business partners and government officials to express congratulatory remarks to the new General Manager.

Martin, who has specializes in the fields of International Banking, and Accounting and Finance, served the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) for the past 16 years prior to moving to the Bank of Nevis in May of this year. He has during that time been provided with training in banking and its supervision, securities exchange and investment analysis.

He also has been able to garner great banking experience through working along with Chase-Manhattan Bank, based in the USVI.

Martin said the response from the staff and clients has so far been excellent and added that there is “a lot of goodwill in Nevis for the Bank of Nevis and also as a Nevisian coming back home to the island”.

He explained that he intends to expand the relationship that the bank has had with local businesses in the community and also individuals. Martin further informed that one of the reasons for hosting the event was to target a number of customers that can bring additional business to the bank.

“The idea is to continue to do the things that the bank has been doing successfully. We have been providing financing for affordable houses, we have provided educational loans, we have partnered with the Nevis Island Administration and we have also been involved in a company that has been exploring for additional water resources. I think we have certainly done an excellent job in ensuring that the company gives back to the community.  ~~Adz:Right~~

“Going forward, the bank wants to expand its operations. We intend to re-launch our offshore bank and our mutual fund product. There has also been some thought about the possibilities of going over to St. Kitts as we have a fairly large customer base there.

“We’re also looking to build new premises... the most important thing though is that when the bank was established, the whole idea was that we would improve the quality of life for the people of Nevis and I think that we have fulfilled this objective.”

The new General Manager also indicated that there may be a few setbacks in investment as people may not be willing to spend and or invest as much, in light of the international financial crises. He however assured the company’s business partners and clients that “certainly, from our perspective the near future seems very promising”.
