~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A recent attempt to smuggle goods into St. Kitts was foiled and resulted in two individuals being arrested and charged.

Sources close to SKNVibes informed that on Wednesday, November 10 Elroy ‘Sully’ Douglas and Enrico Prentice, aboard his fishing vessel ‘Tubal’, traversed the waters and went to St. Eustatius to do some shopping and returned the same day.

According to the source, when the duo returned they made a declaration to the Customs outlet at Sandy Point. However, additional information received by this media house indicates that before the declaration was made they had offloaded most of the goods at an area known as ‘De Hole’; an action which was observed and reported to the authorities.

The Sandy Point Branch of H. M. Customs made investigations into the matter and found the undeclared items in the area where they were offloaded.

Reports indicate that the vessel, which bears the registration number V4367SP, was seized and is in the custody of the St. Kitts Nevis Coast Guard and the men were arrested and charged.  The captain was charged with two counts - attempting to evade customs and attempting to make a false declaration to the Customs Department.

Douglas, a postman by profession, was issued one charge - removing undeclared goods from the vessel with the aim of evading Customs duties.

SKNVibes understands the case is scheduled for hearing at the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 6.
