BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 16TH 2008 (CUOPM) – Ground breaking for the Beacon Heights Residential Development Project is set for this coming Thursday December 18th.

The Beacon Heights Residential Development is the St. Kitts and Nevis Social Security Board’s first residential project and involves construction of 191 houses.

The houses will be built at Dewar’s, just outside Buckley’s Site in Basseterre, on 80 acres of land.

Ground breaking for the Scenic Housing Development on 29 acres of land in the hills of St. Peters took place last month by the St. Kitts Cooperative Credit Union.

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has welcomed these housing initiatives saying it is evidence of the high level of confidence in the local economy and a demonstration of the healthy investment climate that exists in the twin-island Federation.

He said his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration was working closely with the Police Credit Union to undertake a similar housing programme for its membership.

The St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Insurance Company is also getting ready to develop land in the West Farm area for a housing programme.

“What the government is doing is to encourage important institutions in this country to buy the land and provide housing for our people, especially at the middle income level since the government continues to concentrate at the lower income level through the national housing corporation,” said Prime Minister Douglas. ~~Adz:Right~~
