BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (February 29, 2004): About 20 officers with responsibilities related to tax administration are to engage in a March 1 to 4 workshop on “Best Practices in Tax Administration.”
Selected staff from the Inland Revenue Department, Customs and the Ministry of Finance would cover a wide range of topics inclusive of Organizational Issues, Electronic Filing and Payment, Audit Functions, Appeal Systems, Taxpayer Registration and Services, Performance Indicators and IT Systems for Tax Administration.
Ms. Beverley Williams, comptroller of the Inland Revenue Department, told SKNIS that the intensive workshop is designed to bring officers up to date with the most recent and modern methodologies employed in tax administration, and indicated that the aim is to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the processes involved.
The workshop is being facilitated through the Barbados based Caribbean Regional Technical Centre (CARTAC) and would be held at the Rex Papillon Resort. On Friday, following the workshop, a meeting will be held with high level officials of the Ministry of Finance and Inland Revenue concerning the establishment of a Revenue Authority.
