Nevisians paying less for electricity

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (DECEMBER 16, 2008) -- The Joseph Parry led-Nevis Island Administration continued to put into action measures to advance the quality of life for the people of Nevis and has announced some good news for electricity consumers.
In his contribution to the 2009 Budget debate on Wednesday December 10, Junior Minister of Communications, Works, Public Utilities, and Natural Resources, the Honourable Carlisle Powell said government had moved swiftly to pass savings on to commercial and domestic consumers of the Nevis Electricity Company Limited (NEVLEC). A move he said was in keeping with the falling price of oil on the international markets.
“In December, due to the fall in the price of oil, the surcharge will also fall from 41 cents for commercial consumers to 28 cents and for domestic consumers it will fall from 28 cents to 14 cents. They will save half of what they paid last month on their December bill,” Minister Powell said.
Minister Powell further stated that in 2009 NEVLEC would continue to position itself to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
The Natural Resources Minister pointed out that the NIA would also continue to engage in discussions, to foster relationships with renewable energy generators such as West Indies Power Nevis Limited and Windwatt Limited. ~~Adz:Right~~
