BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Federation’s reigning Calypso King, Konris Maynard, was unofficially announced as the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s (SKNLP) candidate for St. Christopher Three.

This announcement was made on Tuesday (Sept. 3) by the SKNLP’s Deputy Chairman and Minister of Information and Education, Senator Nigel Carty, while he was a guest on Freedom FM’s ‘Issues SKN’.

Speaking with Clement ‘Juni’ Liburd, Senator Carty stated that the SKNLP has been very fortunate to have brought into its fold a number of young and very talented persons who are concerned about the development of the country and its people.

“We have brought in Number Eight a young man by the name of Dr. Terrance Drew; Number Seven, we have brought Dr. Vance Gilbert; Number Five, as you know, we have Dr. Norgen Wilson who have been around since the last Elections; and in Number Three we are going to make a big announcement. But I think by now everybody knows that young King Konris, Konris Maynard will be the candidate in that part of the country.”

Asked if Maynard was already launched by the party, Carty responded in the negative.

“No, he has not been launched! That has not yet been released officially. But this is unofficial really, because the official announcement is coming. But I think that there is a certain amount of excitement which has been generated among the people of the country, not only the Labour Party supporters but those who really think that leadership of a country really has to do with bringing the best talents forward and bringing the people who have a serious interest in helping to uplift the conditions of other people.”

Since the tendering of his resignation from Cabinet and breaking ties with the SKNLP, former Deputy Prime Minister Sam Condor has joined with former Senior Minister Dr. Timothy Harris in the formation of a new political party in St. Kitts called the People’s Labour Party.

Condor was the SKNLP’s candidate for St. Christopher Three and is still the Parliamentary Representative for that constituency, but he has since been called upon by the ruling party to tender his resignation as a Parliamentarian because that portfolio was acquired under the umbrella of the SKNLP.

As a result of that, and in an effort to find the best suitable replacement, the SKNLP had considered three young individuals in Konris Maynard, Attorney General Jason Hamilton and Osbert France, the grandson of National Hero the Rt. Excellent Sir Joseph Nathaniel France.

However, as earlier mentioned, Maynard has been chosen as Condor’s replacement and the nation now awaits the official announcement.
