CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – POLICE on Nevis are seeking the public’s assistance in bringing to justice the person(s) who shot and killed Tayan ‘Maccabee’ Wilken on Sunday, September 22, 2013.

According to a police press release, “Police officers of the Violent Crime Unit (VCU), CID, Task Force, Crime Scene Unit (CSU) and other police officers responded to a shooting incident at Cattle Long Path about 8:30 p.m. on 22/09/13, which resulted in one person fatally wounded.”

The release noted that initial investigation revealed that the deceased is Tayan ‘Maccabee’ Wilkin of New Castle, Nevis.

“Anyone who has information pertaining to this incident is asked to call the Violent Crime Unit at 469-5392 ext. 27, or, the nearest Police Station, or, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477. Remember your information will be kept confidential and you may be eligible to receive a reward,” the release said.

Information reaching this media house states that shortly before meeting his demise, Wilkin was seen at the Independence Drag Race Competition held at the St. James Race Track.

It also states that on leaving the Race Track, Wilkin was seated in the front seat on the passenger’s side of a maroon rental vehicle, which was driven by an individual whose brother was also a passenger.

It is alleged that Wilkin’s movements may have been monitored, because when the vehicle in which he was travelling was on a road known as Cottle Long Path in the New Castle area within the vicinity of the Vance W. Amory International Airport, another vehicle overtook it, blocked its path and someone within allegedly fired two shots.

Information further states that one of the bullets had struck Wilkin in the head and he died instantly, but the driver and the other passenger were uninjured.

Wilkin is said to be the son of retired Assistant Comptroller of Customs with responsibility for Port Operations, Terry Adams, and among those left to mourn his passing are his wife Juel Browne-Wilkin and five children.

Tayan ‘Maccabee’ Wilken’s death has taken to 21 the number of homicides committed in the twin-island Federation for the year; 12 on St. Kitts and nine on Nevis.

Those killed on Nevis are: Alex ‘Indo Claxton (22) of Brown Hill; Rudolph ‘Smokey’ Browne (36) of Rawlins Plantation; Kishmoy Challenger (26) of Pond Hill; Chazere Davis (18) of Taylor’s Pasture; Jamal Isles (21) of Fountain Village; Denrick ‘Bluff’ Hanley (23) of Spring Hill, Fountain Village; Adrian ‘Mac 1’ Springette (22) of Cedar Trees, Grove Village; and Antonio ‘Dollar’ Hutton of Bath Village.
