BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A middle-aged man was this afternoon (Sept. 30) pronounced dead after being pulled from the Caribbean Sea.

According to the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, 50-year-old Hilton Ritchen of Brumble Street, Newtown encountered problems while swimming.

He said that Ritchen got into the sea sometime after 2:00 p.m. and a few minutes later was pulled from the water by a family member. He was unresponsive and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

He was later examined and pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr. Mervin Laws.

His alias was given as Bollar and a family member stated that he had celebrated his 50th birthday only yesterday.

Inspector David told this publication that the cause of death is unknown and would be determined by a post mortem.
