    Bahamas deports 373 illegal immigrants

~~Adz:Right~~ NASSAU, The Bahamas – THE BAHAMAS has returned 373 illegal immigrants to their homelands over the past week.

According to Caribbean Net News, Immigration Director Jack Thompson has attributed the success of the effort to the concerted efforts of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Bahamas Immigration Department and the public.

Speaking at a press conference in the boardroom of the Bahamas Immigration Department, Thompson revealed that over $919 000 had been spent on repatriation exercises within the past month, calling it a “wise thing”.

“I think when you really measure the costs to repatriate illegal persons against those if they were here what it costs on our social and health services to feed, house and clothe these people, there is no comparison,” said the Director.

Thompson further stated that the deportations had reduced the pressure on the country’s Detention Centre, as only 50 persons were currently housed at the institution.

He also acknowledged and thanked the government agencies, the public and the United States Coast Guard for their support.

“With this teamwork, with this kind of effort with all engines of government moving, it is good to know that we are going to bring order and tackle this situation,” Thompson said.
