CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – SOME 20 visitors from Holland aboard a cruise ship, STAD AMSTERDAM, were in Nevis yesterday (Jan. 6) and expressed their excitement about visiting the island and the friendliness exuded by its residents.

The ship’s captain, Cosmo Wassenaar, said STAD AMSTERDAM is navigated in an environmentally friendly way that minimises carbon emissions. He also informed that the visitors are on a Caribbean cruise and had arrived on St. Kitts and Nevis from St. Maarten.

Wassenaar is of the view that Nevis is a very unique and unspoilt tourist destination. He declared that European tourists would love to visit the Federation but “to get here is expensive. A lot of people would like to come to Nevis and St. Kitts and I have found that Nevisians are friendly and engaging”.

The captain said European tourists are finding it easy to fly to Asia as it is cheaper. He however noted that Nevis would continue to attract up-market tourists if the natural state of the island remains preserved.

Wassenaar said he first arrived on Nevis some eight years ago while on a visit to St. Kitts. He also recalled rescuing a fishing vessel and sailing it to Nevis shores. ~~Adz:Right~~
