Press Release

Antigua, October 15th, 2013  --  Minister of Finance, the Economy and Public Administration Hon. Harold Lovell and a team of high-ranking technicians were among finance ministers, senior public servants, central bankers and others from across the globe attending the 2013 Annual Meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) this week.

Minister’s Lovell team comprised Financial Secretary Whitfield Harris, Deputy Financial Secretary Rasona Davis and Debt Unit Manager Nadia Spencer-Henry.

The many sessions planned by the multinational institutions included a discussion on the challenges confronting the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) with officials of the IMF and the World Bank.

That session looked at the urgent need for a coordinated and strategic action plan for the ECCU centred on the resolution to four major challenges.

These challenges were identified as financial stability, consolidation and development; debt management; fiscal reform; and growth and competitiveness.

The local delegation also participated in the Caribbean Constituency Caucus Breakfast, and other important sidebar meetings.
