SHOT TO DEATH: Isimba ‘Simba’ Bradley

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LESS than two weeks into the New Year, St. Kitts has already recorded its first murder with the shooting death of a teenager in Basseterre.

Information reaching this media house states that 17-year-old Isimba Bradley, also known as Simba and Ratty, of Fiennes Avenue, Basseterre was shot and killed by a masked man early this morning (Jan. 10) while walking with a friend along Central Street.

According to a police release, the incident occurred at about 12:40 a.m. in the vicinity of Pizza Place, Central Street, Basseterre.

The release also states, “One suspect was shot and injured by the police during a chase and is currently in custody as a patient at the JNF Hospital.”

SKNVibes however learnt that the former Basseterre High School student and his friend were walking in an easterly direction along Central Street when they observed two masked men emerging from the rear of a parked vehicle on Church Street. The masked men were heading in their direction with what appeared to be guns in their hands.

An informed source claimed that a police patrol vehicle was also seen in that vicinity and “Ratty friend tell he to run because the masked men were headed in their direction”.

The source said the two teenagers began running when they heard the report of gunfire and the friend fell down but he was not injured. “However,” the source said, “one of them shoot Ratty when he was near to Pizza Place but he continue to run and turn down Fort Street. He run all the way to the round-a-bout on the Bay Road by Port Zante and he fall down dead on one of the white benches where the Marriott workers does wait for the bus to take them to work.” ~~Adz:Right~~

The source further stated that though uninjured, the friend, who is still traumatised, “blocked out and was taken to the JNF Hospital. He spent the night at the hospital and was discharged this morning, but Ratty is dead”.

Speaking with Althea Herbert, mother of the deceased, SKNVibes was told that she had last seen her son alive on the eve of his death.

“The last time I saw my son alive was yesterday afternoon when he asked me to put an earring in his ear. We talked and I left him with his friends and went home in Keys Village. But sometime after one o’clock this morning I received a telephone call saying that my son is dead. I immediately left my home and went to Basseterre where I saw his lifeless body lying on a bench to the entrance of Port Zante on the Bay Road.”

    Police investigations are ongoing.
