BASSETTERRE, St. Kitts - First and Second Form students of secondary schools in the Federation will be receiving their laptops which were due for distribution in September.

Speaking at a St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Rally in Central Street, Basseterre on Friday evening (Oct. 18), Minister of Information Technology Glenn Phillip disclosed that the students would be receiving their promised laptops.

“Since 2010 I have been fortunate enough to be a part of this government, and part of my mandate was to provide Laptops for the students of the secondary schools. Since then, we have delivered over 6 000 Laptops to the students of the secondary schools in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“The Laptop Programme will continue under a Labour government. Tonight I will like to deliver on the promise; a promise of delivering Laptops to our secondary students.”

He added that it was the government’s intention to distribute the Laptops during this year’s Independence celebrations, noting that the new Laptops would supply students with the latest modern technology.

“We thought we would have given them by September for Independence. However, we told the students that the Laptops would arrive in the first week of October, and so the Laptops are here. But what we have done is that we have changed every time we have delivered Laptops; we keep abreast with modern technology. So, tonight it gives me great pleasure to hand over the next tranche of laptops to Nigel Carty the Minister of Education.”

Phillip also stated that students in the Federation would be able to compete with their counterparts anywhere in the world.

“We have increased the size screen, they are dell 3330s. The students of First Form and Second Form will receive their Dell 3330. This is a modern piece of machinery. There is no way that our students here in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis cannot compete with any students in this world.”

He called Minister Carty to the stage and presented him with one of the Laptops.

“I would like to handover this Dell 3330 to our Minister of Education on behalf of the Ministry of Information Technology to be used for our students in our secondary schools.”
