Government makes arrangements for new incinerator

    ~~Adz:Left~~ Roadtown, Tortola -
Arrangements are currently being finalised to transport and re-assemble the new 100-ton incinerator, which is due to arrive in the Territory later this month.

Government is expected to officially sign an agreement with a local company in the coming days, for transporting the disassembled components of the new incinerator from Port Purcell to Pockwood Pond.

The agreement with Sand Wise Limited will also make provisions for the supply of crane services for erecting the new incinerator after it has been delivered to its final destination.

Officials from the Ministry of Health and Social Development travelled to Virginia, USA last October where they inspected the new incinerator, which has been purchased for use at Pockwood Pond. While in Virginia, the Ministry officials also finalised shipping arrangements.

The 40-ton per day Consumat CS-1600 modular incinerator currently in use was commissioned in 1994. Owing to the significant increase in the volume of solid waste which is generated each day, it became necessary for Government to acquire a larger facility. Following an expert recommendation, Government approved the purchase of a Consutech/Consumat Modular Controlled Air Incinerator which is two-and-a-half times larger than the existing incinerator.

Government remains committed to providing systems that adequately support the economic growth and development of the Territory.
