~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER pleading guilty to “uttering” offences, a 21-year-old woman was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison yesterday (Jan. 14) where she awaits the date of her sentencing hearing.
Claudette Liddie was arraigned before His Lordship Justice Francis Belle and, according the indictment, she was accused of committing two counts of “uttering” and one count of “false pretence”.
The circumstances that led to Liddie’s arrest on the charges of uttering are that on February 6, 2007 and November 15, 2006, she presented forged withdrawal slips (totalling $1 450) to the National Bank to be drawn from the account of Ismay Edwards.
She was also accused of obtaining $960 from an individual at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank by falsely pretending she was authorised to receive money to be drawn from the account of Ismay Edwards. That incident took place on January 22, 2007.
Liddie pleaded guilty to all counts and was told by His Lordship that because there was another matter to be dealt with on that day, she would have to be remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until next week.
As she sat awaiting the arrival of the vehicle to take her to her temporary home, she ever-so-often wiped away the tears which streamed down her pale face. She is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, January 22, 2008.
