BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-OWNER of local radio station Sugar City Roc 90.3 FM, Valentine ‘Val T’ Thomas said yesterday (Jan. 15) that statements made by the People’s Action Movement (PAM) insinuating the sale of the station are “completely untrue”.

Speaking at a Wednesday (Jan. 14) PAM press conference, the leader of the political party, Lindsay Grant said that Sugar City Roc had recently been sold and it’s sale “should be looked into by the media”.

He was at the time speaking of ‘questionable practices’ by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and one of his siblings.
“…Corrupt practices such as the Prime Minister being able to rent his premises to the Taiwanese government; his brother on the other hand rents to the Venezuelans… I believe one has to look at even the most recent acquisition, that is the purchase of Sugar

City Rock for some half a million dollars. I would not say by whom, but maybe the media would want to look into that,” Grant stated, calling the alleged sale “an issue of concern to the people in this country”.

Thomas, however, said in an exclusive interview with SKNVibes that he had no knowledge of his asset being sold and was surprised that Grant would make such an insinuation in a public forum.

“Are you sure he said that? I would like to hear it. Based on my knowledge, the information that he released is not true. To my knowledge, Sugar City Roc has not been sold.”

Thomas said “I am not aware of any talks about Sugar City Roc being sold. It sounds like he had a talk, because if he is saying those things he must have had a talk with somebody, but I never had any discussion about selling Sugar City Roc.” ~~Adz:Right~~

While Thomas is currently away from his business for medical reasons, he said that all executive decisions would still go through him and he was confident his staff could handle the remainder of the business’ affairs while he is away.

“We have a talented staff that has been doing an excellent job in my absence. I think they are more than capable to run the business and I really thank them for it.”

Shortly after Grant’s comment about the radio station’s sale, rumours began circulating that Thomas would be pursuing legal action. When asked about any impending lawsuits however, the owner would only say, “Let’s leave it like it is for now. Time will tell.”

SKNVibes has since spoken with a local businessman who was rumoured to have been in the process of purchasing the radio station before it was allegedly sold out from under him.

The individual said he would not give an official statement at this time as the matter was now “in the hands of a lawyer”.
