BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LOCAL Soca Diva Jacinth ‘Shakki” Smithen has released the first official single for Sugar Mas 42, a groovy tune dubbed ‘Hypnotize’.
The 2011 Groovy Soca Monarch Champion, in an interview with SKNVibes, outlined what the inspiration was behind the track.
“It is called ‘Hypnotize’. Basically, the music has me hypnotized that even though I could not compete for last year’s Carnival, I still had to listen to the music and was hypnotized.”
Shakki also stated that upon her return to the Soca stage, she is confident of repeating her 2011 success.
“I am very confident because the music is good and my lyrics are good and the ideas that I have go with the song well.
“I always have big ideas. Ideas always running through my head; so I would never do the same thing twice... I would always do something different.”
Shakki also disclosed that she is working on an album and it will be released over the coming weeks.
“I am working on an album. I will be releasing it between the 15th and the 18th of this month. It’s called ‘Intensity HD’.
“I would like it to hit all over the place. So far, Hypnotize already starting that and by time the album is finished I know it will be even more massive.”
She also highlighted some of her past successes.
“This year will make 11 years I am singing. I have won two Soca Monarchs in 2002 and 2011. I was nominated for three categories in the International Soca Awards and won Road March in 2005 in Nevis with Ultra-Sonics Band.”
In 2012 Shakki gave birth to her second daughter and announced that she would not defend her Groovy Title that year.
