Roadtown, Tortola - Government has officially signed an agreement with local company Sand Wise Limited for transporting the disassembled components of the new 100-ton-per-day incinerator from the dock at Port Purcell to Pockwood Pond.

Under the agreement, which was signed this afternoon, Sand Wise Limited will also provide crane services for reassembling the new incinerator after its delivery.

The incinerator is scheduled to arrive in the Territory by this weekend.

Premier Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, signed the $108,000 contract on behalf of Government, while Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Social Development Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE, QC signed as the Premier’s witness. Mr. Ashley Ritter signed on behalf of Sand Wise Limited.

The Premier welcomed the signing of the agreement. “The Government is concerned about delivering the best possible service.

We are grateful to Mr. Ritter and his company, Sand Wise Limited, for carrying out this operation and sincerely hope that everything will go well,” the Premier said.

The Minister of Health and Social Development also lauded the agreement while reaffirming Government’s commitment to

improving the capacity at the Territory’s only incinerator facility to better handle the large volume of solid waste which is generated on a daily basis.

“This is a very big step on a long journey.

We in the Ministry of Health and Social Development are truly delighted that we have been able to sign the contract with Sand Wise for the transportation of the long-awaited incinerator plant from Port Purcell to Pockwood Pond,” said Honourable Penn.

The 40-ton per day Consumat CS-1600 modular incinerator currently in use was commissioned in 1994. Owing to the significant increase in the volume of solid waste which is generated each day, it became necessary for Government to acquire a larger facility.

Following an expert recommendation, Government approved the purchase of a Consutech/Consumat Modular Controlled Air Incinerator which is two-and-a-half times larger than the existing incinerator.

Government remains committed to providing systems that adequately support the economic growth and development of the Territory.  ~~Adz:Left~~
