    Court Convictions

    ~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ALMOST $11 000 in fines and compensatory sums is to be paid by persons who appeared before and convicted at the Federation’s Magistrate Courts over the past week.

     

    A Newcastle juvenile appeared before the District “C” Magistrate Court on charges of “cannabis possession”, “resisting arrest” and “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”. The 17-year-old was convicted and fined $2 000 on the drug-related charge and was convicted and severely warned on the other charges. The sum is to be paid within six months or he would have to serve three months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Bath Villager Roger Myers also appeared before the court on drug-related charges, specifically, “possession of cannabis” and was convicted and fined $1 000 to be paid within two months or serve three months imprisonment.

     

    At the District “A” Magistrate Court, Lynnette Antoinette Pemberton of Mad House Alley, Newtown was convicted of “possession of cannabis” and “malicious damage”. On the first count, she was fined $500 to be paid within three months or serve three months in prison, while  on the latter she was ordered to pay $2 000 in compensation to the virtual complainant in the case. The offences were committed on December 16, 2008 and September 1, 2008 respectively.

     

    Fountain Villager Andy Moore was convicted of “possession of cannabis” and fined $800 to be paid within three months or he would have to serve one month in prison.

     

    Michael Richards of Mc Knight was sentenced to serve 12 months imprisonment after he was convicted of one count of “malicious damage”. Additionally, the court ordered that he pay a compensatory sum of $850 within the next month. Failure to do so would result in him serving a further six months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Upper College Street Ghaut resident Kenrick Thomas was convicted of “larceny” and fined $600 which is to be paid in two months. A compensatory sum of $210 is also to be paid to the virtual complainant in the case. Failure to pay either would result in the imposition of a custodial sentence.

     

    Dwight Huggins of Ogees Village, St. Peters; Douglas Anniel of Newtown; and Keith Phillip of Stapleton Village, St. Peters were convicted of separate counts of “driving without due care and attention” and were fined $200, $300 and cautioned respectively.
     
    Six individuals, Keithroy Morris of St. Pauls, Peter Procope of Dieppe Bay, Devin Warner of St. Pauls, Alphonso Archibald of Pond’s Extension, Vincent Branch of Rose Lane, Greenlands and Leroy Archibald of Lodge Village were convicted of separate incidents of “driving carelessly”.

     

    While Morris, Procope, Warner and Alphonso Archibald were fined $700, $200, $250 and $300 respectively, Branch and Leroy Archibald were “severely warned”.

     

    For “failing to produce his insurance within five days”, Gary Richards of Verchilds was convicted and ordered to pay a $100 fine forthwith.

     

    For “riding a bicycle without lights”, Everett Davis of St. Paul’s Village was fined $100 to be paid within two weeks or in default, serve one week imprisonment.

     

    Having been convicted of “driving when not the holder of a valid and unexpired driver’s licence” and “driving without insurance”, Larry Neal of Fountain Village was fined $250 on each count to be paid within two months or in default, serve 14 days, on each count, at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Conaree resident James Howe was convicted of “exceeding the speed limit” and fined $500 to be paid within one day. If he fails to do so, a custodial sentence will be imposed.
