SKN police seek USVI lawmen’s assistance in capturing murder suspect

Juan Francisco Pemberton
By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER more than a year without success, police in St. Kitts may be that much closer to capturing a particular murder-suspect, thanks to the assistance of their counterparts in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI).

Word reaching SKNVibes is that a man who is accused of stabbing another to death may have been seen in St. Thomas, USVI.

SKNVibes made investigations into the matter and the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, confirmed they received word that Juan Francisco Pemberton, alias ‘Cibao’, may have been seen in St. Thomas.

Inspector Henry explained that the police became aware of this after a resident of the USVI saw one of Pemberton’s wanted posters and recognised the familiar face.

He said an individual who resides in St. Thomas went to Police Headquarters, Basseterre to conduct business and caught a glimpse of the wanted poster. The PRO said the individual informed that they had seen Pemberton in St. Thomas and, acting upon that information, the local authorities solicited the assistance of the authorities in St. Thomas in locating Pemberton.

Pemberton is said to be five feet five inches in height with black hair and is fair in complexion.  He is 42 years of age and is a native of Santo Domingo but resided at Salt Pond Alley in St. Kitts.

He is wanted in connection with the murder of fellow native Wilson George. The incident, according to police, was committed on November 4, 2007 at a bar located at Malone Avenue, Basseterre.

“At about 11:30 p.m. Cibao and Wilson George got into an altercation. It is alleged that Cibao stabbed George in his upper body using a knife. George was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he died on Monday 5th November 2007.”

Inspector Henry said someone fitting Pemberton’s description has been taken into the custody of the USVI police and the identification process has begun. He said once that individual has been identified as being Juan Francisco Pemberton, the extradition process would begin.

George’s murder marked the 13th to have occurred in the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis that year.
