ROSEAU, Dominica-WITH two persons dead and another two injured after a shooting spree yesterday (Jan. 20) in Grand Bay, Parliamentary Representative for that constituency, Hon. John Fabian, has said the area is rampant with “evil activity”.

The community was rocked yesterday by the shocking murder of 22-year-old Linka Peters by her boyfriend, Brad Johnville, who subsequently committed suicide at his mother’s residence.

Reports indicate that prior to killing Peters, Johnville turned his weapon on Peters’ father’s girlfriend, Gail Registe, and a friend only identified at this time as ‘Noreen’.

While both Registe and Noreen survived the attack, the women are listed in critical and stable conditions, respectively, at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Roseau.

Fabian candidly informed the media the same day of the shooting that he is greatly concerned for the safety of his constituents.

“I think it’s time for the people of Grand Bay to sit and reflect on what is going on. I think there are some evil forces at work in this community. We know that for many months there have been a number of gun activities and this is becoming too much. I am worried about it.”

Fabian said that he planned to convene an emergency meeting with the Labour Party Association of the constituency in order to find a way to address the growing gun problem that led to the “senseless killings”.

Adding to the shock and fear over the incident is the fact that the Nature Isle recorded its first murder of 2009 a mere three days earlier when Kurt Registe of Bense was discovered chopped to death in the hills of Calibishie.

With three deaths already on the books in the first month of 2009, the roughly 72,000-person island is statistically well on its way to surpassing the relatively low total of 8 homicides recorded in 2008.
