LPM relieved that Kenny Anthony did not treat LIAT like Grynberg

CASTRIES, St Lucia (Nov 25, 2013) – The political leader of the Lucian People's Movement (LPM), Therold Prudent, says that he notes a dramatic shift in the manner in which Saint Lucia's Prime Minister, Kenny Anthony, chose to handle the issue of a three million dollar loan guarantee for LIAT, and feels very relieved that he has acknowledged the need to seek parliamentary approval – something he conspicuously failed to do in the Grynberg affair.

According to Prudent, “With the island facing its worst economic struggle since its independence in 1979, coupled with the dark clouds of financial uncertainty that currently hangs over our nation in the Grynberg legal fiasco, Saint Lucians should brace themselves for even greater economic hardship in 2014 and beyond, if the outcome of the case regarding Jack Grynberg vs The Government and People Saint Lucia isn't settled in our favour.”

“Clearly, we  can't continue to seek false comfort in a better tomorrow for Saint Lucia, if we continuously place politics ahead of our nation's interest by ignoring the potential risk that the Grynberg debacle holds for us as a people,”  said Prudent.

“Moreover, taking into consideration that our public debt currently stands at 78 percent to GDP,  and government’s annual revenue of $839.91 million falls far short of the projected budget expenditure of  $1.327 billion, then, certainly, having to shell out a reported half a billion US dollars to Grynberg, should be a source of great anxiety to every single Saint Lucian.”

The political leader of the LPM concluded his observation by stating, “As a Saint Lucian citizen with a deep and abiding love for the country of my birth, I have made it my responsibility to fully understand the legal and economic ramifications which the Grynberg case holds for our island’s future. Therefore, in the absence of further information or updates coming from the government of Saint Lucia about this matter, I intend to do everything within my power to ensure that Jack Grynberg and others who are involved in this affair do not subject our people to an eternal life of poverty.”
