Development Bank sponsors Brianda Harvey for the 2013 Miss National Carnival Queen Pageant

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (December 3, 2013) -- At a colourful sash ceremony for the 2013 Miss National Carnival Queen contestants held Monday evening at the Stone Wall Restaurant in Basseterre, 18-year old Miss Brianda K.V. Harvey of St. Peter’s received the nod to be the representative for the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis. 

     

    The Development Bank which has been a consistent supporter of the country’s culture by sponsoring the Miss National Carnival Queen pageant was represented by Business Support Officer Mrs Vernitha Maynard who sashed the ecstatic Brianda. She was accompanied by the acting Development Bank’s Executive Assistant, Ms Lavern Jackson.  

     

    Five contestants are gunning for the crown which was in 2011-2012 held by Ms Kalia Huggins who had been sponsored by the Development Bank, and Miss Brianda Harvey who is Contestant Number Five was overjoyed to join a stable that would have produced a winner in the recent past. The reigning Miss Carnival is Ms Zinga Imo, sponsored by the National Bank. 

     

    The ceremony was emceed by Chairperson of Pageants for National Carnival, Ms Nisharma Rattan-Marc, and was addressed by Chairperson of the National Committee, Mr Sylvester Anthony, who thanked the Development Bank for rising to the occasion when approached to sponsor a contestant. 

     

    Miss Harvey, who is a student at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), would have taken part in the Miss Talented Teen Competition in 2010 while a student at the Basseterre High School where she had distinguished herself as an avid debater.  

     

    A forward thinker, Miss Harvey has strategized her life to have a 5-year plan and a 10-year plan, which she is determined to accomplish. Her current duties include being an abuse activist and therapist in her community, tutor to community students and mentor to abuse victims. 

     

    “Brianda comes across as a person with a clear vision and we are happy to be her sponsor this year,” said Development Bank’s Mrs Vernitha Maynard. “She paid a courtesy call to the Bank last week and her warmth put the staff on the alert and all have wished her luck and are looking forward to hosting the crown this year.”
