Government receives the keys for new CGB community centre

    Roadtown, Tortola - Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, officially received the keys for the new Cane Garden Bay Community Centre during a short informal ceremony yesterday afternoon.

     

    After accepting the keys from contractor Mr. Greg Hodge of G-Unit Construction the Premier presented them to the Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Social Development Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE, QC. The Ministry of Health and Social Development is responsible for the management of the Territory’s community centres.

     

    The Premier said he was pleased to receive the keys on behalf of Government while adding that he is looking forward to the official opening of the Cane Garden Bay Community Centre, which is scheduled to take place during the first quarter of this year.

     

    Similar comments were made by the Deputy Premier as well as the District Representative Honourable J. Alvin Christopher, both of whom made brief remarks during the brief hand-over ceremony that was held outside of the building in Cane Garden Bay.

     

    The Minister of Health and Social Development thanked all of the persons who have contributed to the project, and noted that the new community centre will now be furnished in preparation for its official opening ceremony, which the residents on Cane Garden Bay and surrounding communities will be invited to attend.

     

    Territorial-at-Large Representatives Honourable Irene Penn-O’Neal, Honourable Keith Flax, and Honourable Vernon Malone, and Fifth District Representative Honourable Elvis Harrigan were present.

     

    Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Mrs. Rosalie Adams, among other senior Government officers, also attended the hand-over ceremony which was chaired by acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development Mrs. Petrona N. Davies.

     

    The Ministry serves to provide leadership that promotes health, social wellbeing, and a safe environment as positive resources for living and sustainable development. Among other functions, it is also responsible for safeguarding and promoting the overall health and social development of the Virgin Islands.
