Clean fun or animal cruelty?

The man seen holding the cock in the wet down session
By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - J'OUVERT brought out the best in some people with their creativity, and a particular scene that had captured the eyes of many was similar to that of the book Animal Farm before Napoleon took control.

As SKNVibes observed the many people who went above and beyond with their creative J'Ouvert attire, this publication witnessed a scene that begged the question: "What was he thinking?"

A man was seen with what could be deemed one of the weirdest J'Ouvert attire. But, it was not what he wore that caught the eyes of many, but rather what he carried as accessories.

On his left shoulder was a monkey, a cock in his left hand, a sugar cane is his right hand and a cigarette in his mouth. Occasionally, the cock would be perched atop his head and, with the balance of a tight-rope acrobat, it remained there while he danced.

And this is how he partied all J'Ouvert morning.

From time to time he would be seen putting the cock into a backpack before jumping and prancing in the jam session.

But, the atrocity came during the Wet Down Session.

The man was seen in the wet down with the monkey in his right hand and the cock in his left hand as he jumped and bounced to the music while being doused with water.

Not only was he jamming with the animals in the water session, but the manner in which he held them made one wonder if he was fully in his right mind.

He held the monkey by its waist but had the cock by its neck, and as he bounced and jammed in the wet down he flung his hands in the air and shook the animals.

Many onlookers questioned if the cock was dead.

Questions and comments sparked were: "He head good?", "Why he doing the animals like that?", "Lord, the things dem dead now."

Animal rights organisation such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) serves as the mouthpiece for all animals and focuses on the fight against animal cruelty in areas including factory farms, clothing trade, laboratories and the entertainment industry.

They do this through public education and awareness, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue and protest campaigns.

The twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis does not have any animal rights organisation but, with inhumane treatment being dished out to these helpless creatures, surely one should be considered to put a halt to such cruelty.
