BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Small Axe Band has delivered again; for the second consecutive year it has captured the Carnival Road March Title.

The announcement was made late this morning (Jan. 2) by Carnival Chairman Sylvester Anthony, who also informed the public of the body of winners for Sugar Mas’ 42’s street activities.

Small Axe Band, popularly known as ‘de sweetest band’, got rave reviews from fans for its ‘Hardware’ song and was adjudged the Sugar Mas 2014 Road March Champion with a total of 57 points.

The Grand Masters Band singing ‘Who Sen Dem’ came in 13 points behind with Nu Vybz Band International placing third with 21 points.

‘Wuk Up’, a product of the Kollision Band came in fourth with 19 points.

The announcement has fuelled an already tense situation amongst band lovers, with Small Axe fans gloating over their bands success and lovers of the other bands alleging unfairness.

Anthony said the winner of the Individual Old Mas Title went to Stacy Hobson, whose use of the donkey and a placard in the J’Ouvert Jam over the years has drawn the attention of many.

The Queen of the Bands Title went to Banker’s Mas Camp’s Nature’s Fury while King of the Bands went to Fhunn Vybz’ Colour Me Happy.

Fhunn Vybz was also named the Sugar Mas’ 42 Largest Troupe and the Most Colourful Troupe.

Amassing 295 points, the Red Devils’ ‘Hawian Devils’ troupe was named the Best J’Ouvert Troupe, while the First Runner Up spot went to the Xtreme J’Ouvert Troupe with 271 points and the Nu Vybz Mas Jumbies Sugar Warriors and the Small Axe Shiggidy Shack Troupe were tied for Second Runner-up with 266 points each.

With 361 points, Fhunn Vybz’ ‘Colour Me Happy’ troupe was adjudged the Best Carnival Troupe and second place went to Banker’s Nature’s Fury with 353 points. Solid SKB’s ‘Tribe’ came in third with 338 and fourth position went to Phunn Makers with 306 points.

According to Anthony, the results were audited by Grant and Thorton.

All roads lead to downtown Basseterre for the final jam session of Sugar Mas 42 season - Las’ Lap - where it is expected that people would come out in their numbers and party hearty until late into the evening.
