BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE young man, Rasheem Valmin Akeem Gaskin, also known as Rasheem Gaskin, for whom police have been searching, surrendered Saturday (Dec. 4) to officers at the Basseterre Police Station.

Last week, a police press release stated that Gaskin of Yearwood Street, Cayon was wanted as a person of interest in the attempted murder of Mutrice Williams of Cunningham Village, Lower Cayon.

The release also stated that anyone who harbours or helps him in any way to evade the police commits an offence and would be arrested and charged.

However, a follow-up to that release noted that on Saturday he had “surrendered to police officers at the Basseterre Police Station”.

It also noted that the Commissioner Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn and members of the Police Force would like to thank the media and those who were instrumental in making Gaskin surrender to the law enforcement body.

“Commissioner CG Walwyn, the staff of the Violent Crime Unit and the entire Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, take this opportunity to thank the media houses and the persons who were instrumental in the surrender of Rasheem Gaskin. Commissioner CG Walwyn therefore encourages members of the general public to continue to assist and cooperate with the police in their continued efforts to prevent and detect crime.”

Williams was said to be an innocent shooting victim less than 24 hours after Akil Anthony, also of Cunningham Village, was shot while manicuring his father’s lawn at Cabbage Tree Housing Project on Thursday, December 12, 2013.

Information reaching this publication at that time stated that the incident took place shortly after 10:00 a.m. on (Dec. 13) in Cunningham Village while Williams was in conversation with a male, who was seemingly the target of the attack, when the assailant(s) opened fire and she was struck in the hand.

The suspected target however escaped unscathed and an ambulance transported Williams to the Joseph N France General Hospital, where she was treated for her wound.
