Deep fryer causes fire at Glimbaro’s Guest House

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SWIFT response by the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Department prevented a fire from spreading and possibly destroying an entire building.

The fire occurred last evening (Jan. 7) at Glimbaro’s Guest House located near the corner of College Street Ghaut and Cayon Street.

SKNVibes understands that sometime around 9:05 p.m., fire officers responded to the report, and when they arrived they immediately took to work and managed to prevent the fire from spreading past the area where it originated, the kitchen.

According to Acting Fire Chief Everette O’Garro, the fire was the result of a deep fryer which may have burst into flames while it was in use.

Though the fire was contained to kitchen, other parts of the bottom floor of the building sustained soot and smoke damage.

O’Garro took the opportunity to encourage businesses that operate kitchens to ensure that they have a Class K fire extinguisher on hand in the event that fires occur.

He praised his officers for the commendable job they did in averting a larger disaster.
