BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONE man is currently in custody assisting police with their investigation into the find of three firearms and a quantity of matching ammunition in Sandy Point, and they are searching for a number of others who are allegedly involved in the cache.
A police communiqué today (Jan. 8) stated that following a joint Stop and Search Operation on Monday afternoon (Jan. 6) between the Drug Squad of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department’s Enforcement Division, two semi-automatic pistols, one revolver and 13 rounds of ammunition were found within some boxes of soap powder in Sandy Point.
It also stated that the operation, based on an intelligence and surveillance lead, was launched in Basseterre at about 3:00 p.m. and ended in Sandy Point at approximately 6:00 p.m., during which time the cache was discovered in boxes of soap powder within a barrel.
“One person is currently in police custody assisting with this investigation, while others are being sought,” the communiqué said.
According to reports, the barrel, which was cleared at the port facility at SCASPA’s Customs Baggage, was searched at a home in Sandy Point.
“Commissioner C.G. Walwyn takes this opportunity to thank everyone who was instrumental in making this operation a success and keeping our streets safe in the Federation for our children, residents and visitors,” the communiqué stated.
It also stated that the Commissioner is asking the general public to reflect on a quote by Henry Ford, which says: “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
