New Projects to Aid Employment on Nevis

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS-MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND, 2009) -  Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry was the special guest on the popular radio program, Let’s Talk, on VON Radio last Tuesday.
 
The premier gave an overview of the island's latest thrust towards economic development and listed a number of ongoing projects including the production of Geothermal Energy for Nevis which would provide more employment on the island.
 
“I am pleased to say that the geothermal project has been successful so far," noted Premier Parry.  He went on to explain that three wells have already been identified and explored and the findings have been so positive, that the project will be going into the second phase, which involves the development of these wells.
 
Meanwhile, the government has appointed a team of negotiators to work on an agreement with West Indies Power (WIP), the Company which has been granted a license to oversee explorations on Nevis for 18 months.
 
According to the Premier, negotiations for the sale of geothermal to St. Kitts will take place very shortly. In fact, he says, both the Nevis Island Government and the Federal Government will be involved in serious discussions to deal with the way forward for geothermal energy in St. Kitts.  
 
On investment projects, Premier Parry discussed the progress of Live Nevis (a villa development in the Cades Bay area), Nelson Spring Villas and Brown Hill Communications Center.
 
Premier Parry congratulated Nevisian-born Mr. Deon Daniel for his vision in opening and completing the first phase of Nelson Spring Villas.  He said Mr. Daniel will also continue the second phase of Nelson Spring Villas this year and he will provide employment in the area of hospitality and construction.
 
The Brown Hill Communication Center has been a great success for Nevis. The Center, which opened its doors in June 2008, is now employing about120 persons.  The Company is currently advertising for 30 employees which will bring the total to 150 employees in less than a year of operating on the island.
                                                                   
As a result of these recent developments it is only fair to conclude that the NRP-led Nevis Island Government is doing every thing in its power to ensure a comfortable standard of living for all its citizens, amidst these challenging economic times.  It must be noted that any Nevisian who is desirous of working has been able to gain employment here on Nevis.
 
The Premier has committed himself to being on the Let's Talk program once a quarter, in order to provide additional opportunities for the citizens of Nevis to gather information on the progress of the government, to ask questions and offer suggestions.
