BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LEADER of the Unity Movement Dr. Timothy Harris has declared that he would have no confidence in any report that comes out concerning the fires at the Venezuelan Embassy and the office of the Organisation of American States (OAS).

While addressing a public meeting at the Five Ways Junction and Central Street on Monday evening (Jan. 6), Dr. Harris categorically stated that any report regarding the incidents has already been tainted with interference by the Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas after he claimed both fires were politically motivated.

It was previously determined that an arsonist began the fire at the OAS office and it is suspected that that was also the case at the Venezuelan Embassy.

While addressing the nation on Monday (Jan. 6), the Prime Minister spoke of the fires and mentioned a number of incidents that involved members of the opposition parties.

“On the evening of Saturday, January 4, 2014, an illegal night-time demonstration was held by PAM politicians and associates, Lindsay Grant, Eugene Hamilton, Timothy Harris, and others. Around midnight that same night, a fire was set at the Organisation of American States Secretariat and extinguished by our nation’s Fire Services.

“A few hours later, the Embassy of Venezuela burned to the ground. And two evenings prior, PAM politicians and associates Shawn Richards, Jonel Powell, Timothy Harris and others rushed and mobbed a social gathering my Deputy Prime Minister and I were attending at a Port Zante business place in an apparent attempt to intimidate either both of us and/or the business persons present.”

Aaccording to Dr. Douglas, attempts have been made by individuals who are in opposition to his government to weaken the nation and undermine his government by “attacking, in various ways, relations between St. Kitts and Nevis and other nations.”

On Monday, Dr. Harris claimed that the Prime Minister ‘jumped the gun’ in declaring that the fires were deemed acts perpetrated by arsonists.

“When he spoke today you get so many calls from so many people asking is Douglas a crazy man? Douglas head no good? How in the world could any Prime Minister talk and behave like Douglas...a loose cannon, and he behaves like a bandit?

“When you have a man like Douglas and he goes on radio, and when you have a serious matter with purported serious implications and the Prime Minister himself pre-empt the independence of the investigation, that is a cause for concern.

“Investigation no finish...Acting Fire Chief O’Garro says he can’t say no arson at the Venezuela Embassy, at least at this moment in time.”

Harris also said that he would have no confidence in any report coming from these incidents that he believes were concocted y the Prime Minister.

“The Prime Minister, the author of confusion, a self-profess inciter to violence, here he comes to tell us, ‘I Douglas say it is arson.’ How does Douglas know what the Fire Chief doesn't know and is not prepared to say? Ask your self that.

“Douglas went to an all time low level of desperation and he interfered with the investigation. I will have no confidence in any report that comes now concocted by Douglas, because if the expert say he not committing to that and Douglas coming after and say that.”

He however informed that implements, which could be used to set a fire, were discovered at the building that houses the OAS office and the Fire Department has determined that it was the work of an arsonist.

On Tuesday (Jan. 7) a police release stated that investigations revealed that the fire at the Venezuelan Embassy was “intentionally set”.
