BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - STAYING true to his pledge to boost the education sector in the West Basseterre area, Candidate for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) for Constituency Three, Konris Maynard would be presenting two students with scholarships.

The presentations would be made tomorrow (Jan. 10) and Monday (Jan. 13) at the Verchild’s High School and Basseterre High School respectively.

At a political meeting in West Basseterre held on October 17, 2012, which signalled his launch as the SKNLP’s candidate, Maynard announced his intention to establish the scholarship programme.

"I take pleasure in announcing the West Basseterre Primary School All-Round Students Scholarship Award to attend high school. Every year from now, a student in Grade Six of Bronte Welsh Primary School and a student in Grade Six at the Dr. William Connor Primary School will receive an award, a scholarship award to attend high school."

Maynard explained that the scholarship would be based on four simple criteria: academic performance, extra-curricular activities, good behaviour and financial need.

He went on to say that the scholarship award would be made retroactive so that the students who have already entered high school would also benefit.

Tomorrow and Monday the inaugural presentation would be made to two young ladies, Trelecia Walters who attended the Dr. William Connor Primary School and Renisha Wilkenson who attended the Bronte Welsh Primary School, during the schools' general assemblies.

The criteria breakdown is as follows: Academic Excellence 30 percent, Extracurricular Activity Involvement 30 percent, Good Behaviour 30 percent and Financial Aid 10 percent.
