BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NEWLY-ELECTED President of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA), Auckland Hector has identified laying the foundation for future development of cricket as one of his targets during his tenure.

“My presidency is for the next two years. During that period I intend to establish the foundation on which the development of Leeward Islands cricket will be fully established, and I would expect that shortly thereafter we would see some improvement in Leeward Islands cricket.

“It is going to take quite a lot of dedicated work. It is going to require the full commitment of the players and my focus will really be on youth development. That is why I am saying it is not going to happen in the next two years.”

He informed that a development strategy would be drafted within the next three months.

“In that respect we are proposing to establish a development plan for the Leeward Islands over the next five years and that plan we hope to establish over the next 90 days.”

Hector also spoke of the some of the implementations thus far since taking office.

“We have since appointed a Chief Executive Officer who is presently working from Antigua. He is Derrick Nicholas.

“We have already set up some committees; one is a Finance and Fundraising Committee which is chaired by the Vice President of the WICB, Val Banks from Anguilla. We have also set up a Cricket Committee, which is chaired by the President of the St. Maarten Cricket Association and it has three other members including Junie Mitcham, who is the Territorial Development Officer.

“We have appointed the Selection Committee that is chaired by Ridley Jacobs out of Antigua. It has Livingston Harris of St. Kitts presently residing in the USVI and the other is Lawrence Carty from Anguilla.”

Hector also disclosed that the LICA Secretariat would be based in St. Kitts in an office space provided by the government of the Federation.

He also disclosed the others who make up the Executive of LICA.

“The Secretary is Robert Jeffers and Sam Franks is the Treasurer, while the Vice President is Ralph Hodge and the WICB representative is Enoch Lewis from Antigua.”

Hector disclosed that the Cricket Committee is currently is discussion to plan for this year’s Leeward Islands Tournaments.

“We have asked the Cricket Committee to begin to plan the schedule for Leeward Islands Tournaments so we can give the countries time to prepare.

“What we intend to do is not only establish the times for Leeward Islands cricket for this year but also for years to come, so that the countries may know well in advance when the Leeward Island Tournaments are scheduled.”
