After Hugely Successful March Team Unity Heads To Bank Street For Democracy Rally This Friday

Press Release

Basseterre, St.Kitts (Team UNITY Communications):-Wonderful and Massive were the words used by a returning national who participated in Unity’s historic March for Democracy on Friday 10th January 2014.

An excitement and militant spirit filled the air at the Greenlands/Cayon Street starting point.  It was evident that Team Unity was neither cowed nor silenced inspite of the effort of the self professed inciter and illegitimate Prime Minister’s efforts to turn the ire of the public on Team Unity with his malicious, premature and unstatesman-like presentation on two fires which impacted the Organization of American States (OAS) building and the Venezuelan Embassy.

As the March proceeded along Cayon Street, the numbers swelled and the kaleidoscope of colours predominantly white, offset by the national flags, told the story.  Team Unity and its supporters are the patriotic stalwarts from across three political parties: People’s Labour Party (PLP), People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the Concerned Citizen Movement (CCM);  who came together to put Country First after God.  They came together not just to defeat the increasingly dictatorial Douglas regime but to make St. Kitts and Nevis a model democracy and a model for its people’s inclusive development.

Efforts by the desperate minority government to: shut up the Opposition by withdrawing their permit to hold public meetings; by denying them access to Church Street to peacefully protest against an illegitimate government that is operating without constitutional basis and the unlawful arrest of social activist Clecton Phillip on a trumped up charge of disorderly conduct by being loud, failed to sap the energy of Team Unity.  Neither did the disastrous fire, which destroyed the property of Team Unity’s Candidate for constituency #4, Lindsay Grant.

Thousands people the streets of Basseterre showing their support and and well over 1000 participated in the Democracy March in full support.  The March was peaceful and it culminated with a Rally.  The Rally was brought to a premature end by an island wide block out of electricity.  Electricity is distributed by a government entity called SKELEC.

This Friday 17th January 2014, Team Unity intends to hold another Massive meeting at Bank Street, Basseterre.  The people’s issues will be addressed by the people’s representatives. The RALLY will be complimented by entertainers including calypsonians Lady Diva, Big Lice, Lord Kut and I-Soursop . And to crown the list of high powered Entertainers will be the Road March Champions Small Axe Band.

Team UNITY Leader The Hon. Dr. Timothy had this to say  “Our country requires a change in government and a new way of doing things with an emphasis on accountability, good governance, and responsible servant leadership.  Team Unity is the answer.”
