ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – PENDING an ongoing investigation into the murder of 13-year-old Tiquane Jackson, police officials have confirmed that the girl’s death was as a result of strangulation.

When Jackson’s body was first discovered on Saturday (Jan. 31), police reported that there were no visible signs of violence on the body. However, according to news from that country, a post-mortem conducted on Jackson’s body on February 2, revealed that the Paynters resident was strangled to death.

According to the Antigua Sun, a 16-year-old male was taken into custody since January 31. The report states that the suspected individual had been assisting with the investigations into the murder and is expected to be charged for the homicide.

Jackson’s body was found among bushes in the Fitches Creek area around 2 p.m. on Saturday January 31. She was reportedly dressed in a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt and was found lying on her back a few yards away from a hillside house.

Dr. Delrose Christian pronounced Jackson dead minutes before the body was taken to the mortuary.

Although the talk of rape was rampant after the girl’s body was found, no motive has been given for the heinous act. Antiguan police have not confirmed any sexual assault but have reassured the victim’s family that further investigations into the matter would be ongoing.
