NAGICO Press Release

The NAGICO Super50 Tournament was officially launched by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB)in the tournament's host country of Trinidad on Thursday during a press conference held in the ballroom of the Queen's Park Oval Stadium; Port of Spain.

It was in this setting that the NAGICO St. Maarten delegation; consisting of CEO designate; Dwayne Elgin, Executive Marketing Manager; Paul Dijkhoffz and Christopher Henriques, General Manager NAGICO Trinidad & Tobago together with President and CEO of the WICB, Michael Muirhead and President of the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Azim Bassarath addressed the media; giving details of the new partnership and the upcoming tournament.

Mr. Elgin explained that NAGICO has a passion for cricket which is reinforced by the Group's Chairman; Mr. Imran McSood Amjad and this was demonstrated through the company's over 10 year sponsorship of the annual Leeward Island Cricket Association (LICA) 50 Overs tournament.

"For 10 years we were the headline sponsors for the LICA tournament, but we felt that with the expansion of NAGICO in the wider Caribbean, the time was ripe for us to sponsor something on a larger, more regional scale, that would benefit the development of regional cricket, especially the islands in which we operate," he said. "It is our hope that with this sponsorship of West Indies cricket we will see a resurgence in West Indies cricket.

CEO of the WICB, Michael Muirhead lauded NAGICO for taking such a bold step in sponsoring the tournament something that was much needed. "In this present economic climate when many companies are being forced to cut back, NAGICO has taken a step to sponsor the WICB Regional Super50 tournament officially named the “NAGICO Super50” and has made that commitment to West Indies cricket for the next 3 years, which should be applauded" he said.

The NAGICO Super50 tournament runs from January 30 - February 15 and will be broadcasted live on ESPN and on Caribbean Super Station radio and streamed live on www.windiescricket.com. Go to www.facebook.com/Nagico-Insurances to download an official match schedule.
