Basseterre, St. Kitts - Ms. Julia Rawlins, a ten-year (10) old student of the Dr. William Connor Primary School has been recognized for her outstanding literary work, as the winner of the 2008/9 WINNFM Primary Schools Christmas Short Story Competition.
The fifth (5th) grade student was presented with a brand new CANON A470 PowerShot Digital Camera valued at eight hundred and fifty dollars (EC$850) by Ms. Gail McAlmont, Project Officer in the TDC Client Relations and Marketing Department.
In accepting, the high-tech photographic equipment, the young wordsmith expressed words of appreciation to the local business house for the accolade.
“I wish to thank TDC for this wonderful gift. I am so happy that my hard work has paid off”, remarked Rawlins.
According to Ms. McAlmont, “TDC is very pleased to be associated with this initiative as it underscores the importance of writing and gives young persons an avenue for developing their literacy proficiencies. We are very proud of her achievement.”
The promising writer penned a composition entitled, “The Empty Box”, which received the judges’ nod as the most outstanding composition from among some nineteen entries from eight (8) Primary Schools throughout the island.
On hand for the presentation, which took place at the studios of WINNFM on Friday 30th January 2009, were the Runners Up, Principals, Teachers, Parents, Anastasia Elliott; Project Coordinator, Radio Personality Carla Astaphan, and other Corporate Sponsor Representatives.
