One charged for Venezuelan Embassy fire

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has informed that one male has been formally arrested and charged in connection with the fire which consumed the building that housed the Venezuelan Embassy.

     

    The incident occurred during the early-morning hours of January 5, 2014 and after the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services Department laboured for four hours were able to contain and quench the blaze.

     

    The Fire Department had indicated that according to the evidence which they discovered at the scene, it was suspected that it was the work of an arsonist.

     

    Less than 48 hours after the fire had taken place, Prime Minister of the Federation the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas - in an address to the nation - suggested that the fires were politically motivated.

     

    A police communique released this afternoon (Jan. 23) informs that following an “intense investigation into the destruction by the fire”, 37-year-old Andrew ‘Cheeko’ Wilson who resides at Phillip’s Village was arrested and charged.

     

    The release informs that the man - formally of Lodge Project - was charged with the offences of arson and malicious damage.
