BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - HOW it happened is still somewhat of a mystery, but the Traffic Department is making investigations into a bizarre accident which ended with a vehicle lodged between another and a building.

A police press release issued yesterday (Jan. 27) gave little detail about the incident but SKNVibes was the recipient of an eye-witness account.

The eyewitness explained that the incident occurred sometime between 9:50 and 10:30.

She indicated that while on Central Street in the vicinity of Mac Pennies, she observed a vehicle, TA84, travelling westwards along that road and it appeared to be making an attempt to park behind a vehicle just off the western corner of New and Central Streets.

“The vehicle’s front right tyre blew out and it appeared as though the driver had lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was out of control and I don’t know what happened, but it was just accelerating. It hit the sidewalk and bumped back down then went forward again.”

She further explained that what happened next shocked her.

“As the vehicle was going forward, it got on top of the sidewalk and continued travelling there. It then struck two vehicles that were parked next to the sidewalk and continued travelling in a westward direction. I can vividly remember that while it was still travelling along the sidewalk a woman had emerged from a store and started running after seeing the vehicle was heading in her direction.”

The police press release names the driver and owner of the vehicle as Nathaniel Elliott of Kittstodart and indicated that he was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital “for medical attention”.

    Investigations are ongoing.
