BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FAMILY members, friends and well-wishers of Christopher Dasent would be hosting a service in memory of the late football legend at the St. Johnston’s Methodist Church on Saturday (Feb. 1).

Dasent passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the age of 55 and was laid to rest in New York on Friday, January 10, 2014.

The Memorial Service will commence at 4:00 p.m.

Tributes would be delivered by friends and family members including the RAM’s Village Superstars FC and the Trafalgar Southstars FC.

One of the organisers explained that she would like to give Dasent "what is due to him".

"Just give praise and honour to him for leaving a positive outlook on football in our community. We really thought that we should give him that," she said.

President of the RAM’s Village Superstars FC Troy 'Spuddy' Hendrickson explained that the football entity is in its 42nd year and Dasent was a member for the most part which speaks volumes to his character and that of his family.

"For us in the RAM’s Village Superstars family, Chris Dasent, a member of the Dasent trio, would always be remembered as the original superstar in terms of almost being there at the beginning at RAM’s Village Superstars.”

He said that Dasent played as a mid-fielder in a number seven jersey.

Describing Dasent’s manner on the football field, Hendrickson said that "he was like the engine of the team. He was the creative one...he received most of the balls. He was the one who was able to advance the ball in terms of moving it forward towards the goal and making that final pass onto the striker who would be the person to score the goal".

Hendrickson said that Dasent was not one to receive credit for scoring goals but rather "his creativeness in marshalling the mid-field for Village Superstars and later for the National Team as well".

He also disclosed that the number seven jersey would be retired at the Memorial Service and explained it means that no other member would play as number seven.

On behalf of the team, Hendrickson said: "Our hearts go out to the Dasent family. One of our superstars have fallen but definitely not on deaf ears. He has gone on to a higher calling and we want to celebrate his life and ensure that it is etched into football circles that Chris Dasent would be remembered forever."

The Memorial Service would be lead by Rev. Joyce Rohan and the organisers extend their gratitude to both she and Konris Maynard.
