CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS (February 6, 2009) -- A United States based organization; Global Faith Alliance (GFA) has expanded its charitable work internationally and has included Nevis in its programme. Local representative for the organization, Pastor Davidson Morton, who was instrumental in securing the partnership, late last month [January], said that Nevisians stood to benefit from free health care screenings during the month of February.
Pastor Morton made the disclosure during a recent handing over ceremony of 40 boxes of medical supplies from Global Faith Alliance to the Alexandra Hospital.
“On the 15th of February we are bringing a team of 38 nurses and doctors to St. Kitts and I have asked that it be extended to Nevis. At least ten nurses and doctors will be coming over to Nevis.
“We are setting up two stations that we are going to be offering free medical services. One will be at the Jessup’s New Testament Church of God and one will be at the Church of God at Eden Brown. This will be on the 15, 16 and 17 of February and as time goes on you will hear much more about it,” he said.
Meanwhile, in accepting the medical supplies, Minister of Health the Honorable Hensley Daniel said the gesture was the kind of partnership that the Nevis Island Administration looked to for forging both preventive and curative care for the people of Nevis
“We want to record our thanks and appreciation to Global Faith Alliance for its contribution towards the maintenance and of course improvement of health care in Nevis.
I believe that our medical professionals working in health given the challenges of resources are pleased all the time when we can hook up with these agencies and provide some resources.
“I believe their task is made a lot less difficult with the provision of resources and I look forward to continued engagement with Global Faith Alliance,” he said
Mr. Daniel also suggested that when supplies and resources were received from donors, it was important that the patients and people of Nevis utilized them well, so that they could demonstrate to the organization and to others when we are provided with resources we use them, and we use them well.
“From the Ministry’s point of view we will continue to forge the kinds of links [like Global Faith Alliance], which will redound to the benefit of the professionals in the service and also the patients. Once again thank you very much Global Faith Alliance and please be assured of the government’s continued support for partnerships of this nature,” he said.
Minister Daniel handed over the gifts to the Acting Chief of Staff of the Alexandra Hospital, Dr. John Essien who expressed gratitude on behalf of the institution. He said the patients and staff as well as the people of Nevis were grateful be included in the improvement of health care in the different communities around the world by international organisation’s act of kindness.
He said medical items are of varied sorts and would be useful in the hospital’s daily delivery of health care in helping members of our community get back to their health.
Also in attendance were Hospital Administrator Veta Morton and Nursing Supervisor, Matron Aldris Pemberton-Dias.
