Operation Future to host Silent Auction tomorrow

By: Jenise Ferlance-Isaac, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN an effort to gain finance for the funding of Operation Future, the non-governmental organisation will be hosting its annual Silent Auction tomorrow (Feb. 1) at the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis.

The auction will run from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Founder and President of Operation Future Constable Lauston Percival explained that the auction is an annual event which provides the fund needed to sustain the organisation throughout the year.

“Delisle Walwyn is one of our major sponsors and they assist us with getting persons over to Nevis from St. Kitts,” Percival said.

Apart from Delisle Walwyn, Percival said other major sponsors are Four Seasons Resort, Nevis Island Administration and a number of other prominent businesses throughout the Federation.

He disclosed that the organisers would like to raise EC$20 000 at the Silent Auction, which would have a variety of items.

"Some of the items that would be found at the auction are jewellery, cellular phones, expensive wines, clothing, paintings, dinner for two at different restaurants and nights for two at several hotels.

"Each year, we have had a lot more people participating in the auction, so this year we intend to raise a lot more funds," he explained.

The Constable also explained that the annual programmes offered by the organisation offers are costly and people should therefore understand the need for the fundraiser.

He further explained that the organisers sometimes take the children on field trips, among other events, which all require funding that they would otherwise have to provide themselves.

"By the end of the year the funds are depleted, so those raised from the Silent Auction is what we use as our funding," he added.

Giving details about the Creative Youth Academy that Operation Future recently established on Nevis, Percival said that it is located at the old Cotton Ground Police Station, which his organisation has transformed into what it now is.

He said that apart from Home Work assistance, the Academy also engage the children in music and sports, noting that prominent people also  go to the Academy to speak to the children on various topics critical to their development.

The organisation’s President also said that the Academy has been getting a plethora of assistance of which they are very grateful, and that it is being utilised by people from all the villages on Nevis.

Percival, on behalf of Operation Future, is inviting everyone to go out and participate in the Silent Auction tomorrow.
