BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE young ball-weavers from Tyrell Williams continue to show their superior skills and strategies as they ‘trampled’ Bronte Welsh 5-0 on Thursday (Jan. 30) in the first of the best-of-three Finals in the National Bank iDepartment of Sports Primary School Football Competition played at Warner Park.

Fresh off of an outstanding 5-0 Semi-Final victory over Joshua Obidiah Williams Primary School, Tyrell Williams carried the momentum into game one of the Finals by seeking early advantage with some very accurate passes.

The strategy however failed as the Bronte Welsh players frustrated the defending champions with very clever defensive tactics to thwart the normal fluent Tyrell Williams’ attacks.

The first half ended nil-all but Tyrell Williams came out a determined lot in the second and piled immense pressure on their opponents who were kept in the game only by their goalkeeper Jaylon Leader who pulled off some stunning saves.

Despite Leader’s tremendous efforts, the game’s first goal came when a hand ball in the box by Bronte Welsh was punished by the referee to give Tyrell Williams a penalty. The resulting spot-kick was converted by Rogernique Hendricks.

A few minutes later, a brilliant strike by Philson Wattley from 25 yards out left the keeper with no chance of stopping the ball from reaching the back of the net.

That second goal was followed by another off the boot of Hendricks, and Bronte Welsh’s hopes were dashed when the fleet-footed Deangelo Webster added two more to Tyrell Williams’ count.

All the goals were scored within a 10-minute period, leaving Bronte Welsh to return to the drawing board in an effort to halt the seemingly ‘unstoppable force’ in game two scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 5) at the same venue.

Philson Wattley was adjudged MVP for Tyrell Williams while goalkeeper Jaylon Leader was the MVP for Bronte Welsh.
