UPP Launches Re-Election Campaign

February 3, 2014  --  Gospel singers and uplifting music set the tone for the United Progressive Party (UPP) re-election campaign, which officially got off the ground on Sunday with the opening of the UPP Campaign headquarters on Independence Avenue.

Named the “UPP Command Centre” the building will serve as the central nerve for the party’s campaign.

Flanked by supporters and candidates for the next general election, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Baldwin Spencer told the thousands of persons that attended the event his party is committed to nation building.

The Prime Minister noted the UPP administration has implemented clear and realistic policies which continue to put Antigua and Barbuda on a path of growth and development.

The UPP has been credited with successfully manoeuvring over its two terms in office, a failing economy due to the mismanagement of the ALP administration--- and a financial crisis due to the collapse of the country’s single largest private sector employer.

The party is not only credited with restoring and reconstructing the Antigua and Barbuda economy but also resuming the nation’s pride of place among International Nations.

The United Progressive Party government came to power at the eve of the worst global Financial and Economic Crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930’s, the worst in seventy-seven years.

The impact was even more devastating on the regional and national economies – a crisis which saw more than ninety percent of the entire world economy melting down.

However the country’s leader noted that even in the worst of times his administration has made sure and steady progress for its people.

Antigua and Barbuda ended 2013 having experienced growth for a second consecutive year, after three years of recession from a global meltdown.

The economy is rebounding and the Prime Minister stressed that “now more than ever” the country needs to remain in the hands of steady, reliable and trustworthy leadership.
