BASSTERRE, St. Kitts - ST. KITTS and NEVIS sprint icon Kim Collins has added one more medal to the ever-growing medal collection after a second place finish in the 60 metres at the Russian Winter Meet on Sunday (Feb. 2).
Collins’ fast start was matched by race winner Yunier Perez with both sprinters pulling away ahead of the other competitors who stood no chance of overtaking the race leaders.
Pérez’ strong finish however was good enough to thwart Collins’ attempt at victory.
Pérez won the race in 6.49 seconds with Collins closely trailing with a time of 6.55 seconds.
Perez, who is from Cuba, was a last-minute addition and made full use of his chance to compete. He now heads the 2014 World Lists after clocking 6.49 seconds, a time which equals that of Cuba’s Freddy Mayola’s 2000 record.
Collins was also second to Perez in last week’s 60-metre race held in Germany.
