Tyrell Williams repeat as primary school football champs

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CONFIRMING their status as the top their league in St. Kitts, the Tyrell Williams Primary School has captured the 2014 National Bank Department of Sports Primary School Football Competition title after winning game two of the best-of-three final played at Warner Park on Tuesday (Feb. 4).

Following a commanding 5-0 thrashing on Thursday (Jan. 30) in the first of the three games, Tyrell Williams looked to sealed the victory in two games, and so they did.

That game plan seemed on course when after just three minutes, Tyrell Williams got the first goal following a defensive lapse by Bronte Welsh, which left goalscorer Shaquiel Richardson open in the box to thump the ball past the goalkeeper.

The early setback seemed to dampen the spirits of Bronte Welsh who never seemed threatening in their attempts to force a third game.

Bronte Welsh’s woes continued to mount after Rogernique Hendrickson doubled Tyrell Willlams’ lead.

Tyrell Williams stamped their authority on the game with a string of attacking possessions feeding off of the boisterous cheers from their cheerleaders.

At the start of the second half, Bronte Welsh made attempts to claw their way back into the match but failed to secure their opening goal.

When Tyrell Willlams’ third goal was scored by Hendrickson the faces of the Bronte Welsh players dropped as they knew it would have taken a miracle to overcome the lead.

Hendrickson was adjudged Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the game following his brace.

Jazza Buchanan, Coordinator of the tournament - congratulated Tyrell Williams for their triumph over the last two years - a time span in which they have not lost a game.

In presenting the championship trophy to Tyrell Williams, Director of Sports Jeffery “Pedro” Hazel congratulated the team on their achievement and thanked the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank for their sponsorship over the years.
